Hire a Node.js developer?

Node.js runs JavaScript on the server, so the frontend and backend can share one language and often the same code. We build APIs and real-time services with it that respond fast and scale with traffic. You will find it across 1 client project and 1 lab article.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Node.js developer do?

A Node.js developer builds the server side of an application in JavaScript or TypeScript: the API your app pulls its data from, the connections to other systems, and services that have to respond in real time, such as a chat, notifications or a dashboard that updates live. Because Node.js speaks the same language as the browser, that developer can also work on the frontend and share code between the two sides, the validation of a form for example. What sets Node.js work apart is what happens when a thousand requests arrive at once. Handling that means knowing how the event loop works, when work belongs in a queue and what you never do in the middle of a request.

What does it cost to hire a Node.js developer?

A senior Node.js developer in the Netherlands charges roughly 70 to 125 euro per hour excluding VAT. With Node.js the rate tells you less than the dependencies do: an average project pulls in hundreds of npm packages, and keeping them current is work that comes back every month. So ask not only what the build costs, but also who updates the packages when a security hole turns up in one of them. For a clearly bounded piece of work we prefer to agree a fixed price, so you know in advance what you are in for.

Node.js or Go: which do you pick?

For a new backend, Go is our default: a single file to deploy, predictable memory use and few dependencies. We pick Node.js when your team already works entirely in TypeScript, because then frontend and backend share one language, the same types and often the same code, and that outweighs what Go offers. An existing Node.js application we do not rewrite without a reason: moving working code to another language takes months and gives your users nothing.

What should I look for in a senior Node.js developer?

At what they do when things go wrong, not at how many frameworks are on the CV. A senior Node.js developer knows why one heavy calculation inside a request makes the whole server wait, keeps the npm packages current before a vulnerability forces it, and uses TypeScript to catch mistakes before they go live rather than as decoration. In an interview, ask about an outage they solved and how they found the cause: the answer tells you more than a technical test.

Can a Node.js developer work for us remotely?

Yes, and with us that is the default: short lines through Slack or Teams and regular updates, with the code in your own repository. What decides whether remote works is not the distance but who you talk to. You speak directly with the developer who writes the code, with no account manager relaying it. Our process runs entirely on AI, with a human checking every line before it goes live, so you do not need to sit next to anyone to know what is being built. Would you rather sit at the table, that works too: our studio is at Hofplein in Rotterdam.
